The phone rings. I hear the Voys ringtone from the phone and see that a few of lights are flickering. I pick up the phone and answer, “Hi, this is Ferdian from Voys.”
We previously posted this blog in February 2020 and updated it in October 2024.
This is how it used to be at Voys when someone contacted us by phone. On each desk there was a telephone set that we used to make calls with. But slowly the desks in our office are getting more and more empty. And that’s not just because we have switched to a hybrid working structure.
These days there are almost no phones on desks. All customer contact colleagues work with the Voys Webphone. The what? The webphone, with which you can make calls through your browser. It turns every computer into a phone. You can use it to make calls and you can be reached on your fixed business number. Very handy, so you can work wherever you want.
Webphone is a type of softphone. Does this term not sound familiar to you? The word softphone is a combination of the words software and phone: a phone made from software we developed ourselves. You just use it in your browser, no need to download or install anything.
With the webphone you can make and receive calls just like with a normal phone. You do not necessarily need a headset to make calls with the webphone, yet we recommend using one. Especially if you make more calls in a day. A headset with noise reduction works best, so you filter the ambient noise. In addition, you need a good working internet connection.
Do you have a laptop or PC, headset and a good Internet connection? Then you’re ready to go. Nowadays we work both at home or at an office, and the webphone is ideal for that. You can also use it on vacation. My colleague Johan once spent the cold months in the Netherlands in sunny South Africa, where he also worked with the webphone.
The webphone is directly connected to Freedom, your online telephone system. You log in with your customer data and you don’t need a separate user to make calls with the webphone. So it’s just a matter of logging in and making calls.
One of the advantages of the link with Freedom is that you can easily change your availability in the webphone. You can also see which colleagues are available, so that you can forward a call, for example. You can also see if a colleague is busy. And do you have a colleague you often speak to or to whom you often transfer a call? Mark him or her as a favorite, so you never have to search for a long time. In addition, you can easily view your call queues and see how many people are waiting. In short: a lot of useful features.
From the do-not-disturb button to the recent calls list, this story tells you how to make the best use of the webphone’s features. And what about the contact book in the webphone? No more typing numbers. You simply add a contact to your contact book. Easy does it!
Do you, like me, spend most of your workday behind a laptop? Then this might be the time to get rid of your desk phone. Because if you use the webphone, you don’t have to buy or use a separate phone. This is ideal, as you can work wherever you want and don’t need a fixed workstation.
Does all of this sound good? Do you want to get started with the webphone? Just opt for a VoIP subscription. No need to install any software.
